Begin plaster application by talking some Classic polished from the tub with spatula and place on the left hand side of trowel as you are looking down at flat blade (handle underneath). It is important to use only one side of the trowel at all times. This will help keep the paste material from drying on one side and will eliminate the possibility of debris causing damage to the finished surface.

Venetian Plaster First Coat:

Begin at top left corner and cover the entire surface with paste and try to keep this lay of material as even as possible with few trowel marks. You will have some trowel marks and they can be lightly scraped before the next lay. Also note to the picture on the right how we only use one side of the trowel. This keeps the product "wet" at all times. Again covering the entire surface. Now, allow the first lay to dry completely over night.

Above Venetian plaster application picture shows a little contrast between the dry and wet areas. Sample is about 95% dry.

Venetian Plaster Second Coat:

The above picture has just had the second applied and is applied in such a way as to bring the first coat up to a relatively smooth surface. Strokes are applied in random directions, again following the same path from top left corner. Do not use any pressure at this point. It is basically a fill in coat to make a smooth surface for the final coat. When the second coat is approximately 80% dry it is time to begin the third coat. Apply an area of about 12 sq feet with a nice tight coat of Classic, at this point one applicator can go ahead and cover another 12sq feet while the other applicator falls back and begins to "PRESS IN" the third coat and commencing the "polishing" process.

Leave until about 80 - 90% dry, proceed with third final coats.

Apply an area of about 12 sq feet with a nice tight coat of plaster Classic, at this point one applicator can go ahead and cover another 12sq feet while the other applicator falls back and begins to "PRESS IN" the third coat and commencing the "polishing" process to polish. Pictures Below.

On to the polishing. Do not put too much pressure. As the plaster begins to set, it will become more easier to polish the surface. The trowel will just slide across the surface. Try to polish with the edge of the trowel, moving like a ice skate. Do not polish by pulling the trowel directly across the surface. This could lead to problems with surface peeling.

A protective coating should be applied about 1-2 days after application. Marmorino Soap paste or Cera liquid beeswax is recommended over the Carrara finish. For a more shiny polished Venetian plaster finish surface you may apply wax over the soap.
